A History of Kensington

Kensington is proud to honor our club, our members and our history.

  • 1993 - Development began on the 370 –acre, gated community of Kensington Golf & Country Club in the heart of Naples during the fall 
  • 1994 - In the fall the groundbreaking ceremonies for the 30,000 square foot Clubhouse at Kensington
  • 1994 - During the fall the par- 71, Robert Trent Jones, Jr. championship course opens
  • 1995 – Nominated the Best New Private Course by Golf Digest
  • 1995-1999 – Hosted the Nuveen Masters Tennis Tournament, the Senior Circuit’s end–of–season championship
  • 2003 – The Members of Kensington Golf & Country Club purchased the Club from the developers
  • 2003 – State-of-the-art Fitness Center is opened during the fall
  • 2006 – Kensington’s Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Championship course underwent a $2.2 million renovation, which included a full greens reconstruction, tees laser leveled and regressed, all bunkers rebuilt with new sand¸ and coquina cart paths added to seven holes
  • 2008 – Hosted Boys National Amateur Qualifier
  • 2009 – Hosted US Amateur Qualifier
  • 2009 – In April, the Clubhouse underwent a seven month, $5.5 million renovation project. This included the addition of new dining space, a second floor terrace overlooking the 18th hole, new meeting rooms, and building enhancements that meet current codes
  • 2010 – Hosted US Open Qualifier
  • 2010 – Naples Daily News Choice Champion Runner-Up, “ Best Private Country Club”
  • 2011, 2012 and 2013 – Naples Daily News Choice Champion Winner, “Best Private Country Club”
  • 2014 - Selected to host a qualifier for the 2014 U.S. Open Championship
  • 2016 - Selected to host a qualifier for the 2016 U.S. Open Championship
  • 2016 - Selected to host a qualifier for the 2016 U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier
